Late 2015

 August was our annual camp, when the field is converted into a campsite.

 Sunday saw us having lunch outside, congregation and campers.

 The singing at the Sunday morning service was led by the campers' band.

All the usual events happened regularly, the supper clubs, men's breakfasts and bible fellowships.
October saw our annual harvest festival celebrations, and the gifts of produce and food were given to the St. Wilfrid's Centre in Sheffield.  The celebrations continued on the following Thursday at the Five Crops and Choruses meal.
October 31st was our annual Festival of light when people met to play games, do craft work and eat seasonal food.
The church meeting is September decided a date in November for the planning of our programme for the coming year.  This is now decided (subject to ratification by the January church meeting).  If you would like details, please get in touch with one of the pastors.
Our bonfire and barbecue was a bit unusual because the bonfire was on the school yard next door.  The purchaser of the school has been doing a lot of building work.  He was kind enough to donate the waste to the bonfire, and it was decided to be easier to move the people than the fuel!  As usual the barbecue was in the chapel field.

 Christmas was a busy time as usual.

   The carol singing with the Salvation Army band was well attended and very successful.

  The Advent Carol Service, and the Carol service were their usual success, and the carol singing round the valley was as popular as ever.
The Five Courses and Carols was not quite as well attended as some years, but at least the weather was on our side this year.  Everyone who attended enjoyed it.

Flower Festival

This year's flower festival was on the theme of "Jesus' Hands".
It was a lovely weekend.  The church was open to view the exhibits on Saturday and Sunday.  On Sunday the morning service was led by our pastors Susannah and Jonathan.  The evening service was led by Rev. Grant Naylor, the vicar of St. Matthew's Church, Carver street.

Donations were made to D.A.R.T. International.  (Disaster Arborist Response Team)  This is the charity which our church is supporting this year.  The group aims to provide skilled arborists to work in disaster areas.  More information is available at www.dartinternational.co.uk

Early 2015

Life in the church continues as usual.  We had one or two problems with the weather, including the church meeting having to be cancelled,

but most of our events continued .  The church party was a great success, with a Scottish theme in honour of it being held on Burn's night.  The games were successful, but some of our guests were suspicious of the haggis!
The bible fellowship continued, and during Lent we met every week and studied prayer.  Since Easter we have been continuing our study of Luke's Gospel.  We seem to getting a lot out of it, and progress is quite slow, but who is rushing?

The flower Festival will be later on, and we are planning a music festival in August.  Details of both will be available nearer the time.
Susannah celebrated Pentecost, the church's birthday with a suitable service and a birthday cake.

Late 2014

The main activity in August was our church family camp.  

 The members of the camp led our worship on the Sunday morning.

 And one of our visitors celebrated his birthday.

 Later in the year Susannah christened Amber Scarlet.

 Our festival of light was a great success with seasonal activities.

The annual bonfire was a great success, although the weather was somewhat against us.

 The annual five courses and carols was well attended.

And of course we had our carol service, singing round the valley and Christmas morning service.

Since our last blog we have done the usual range of activities at Mayfield.  Worship has been held every Sunday,

the Bible fellowship has been held twice a month, at present we are studying Nehemiah, and his saga of building walls round the city.  We intend moving on to Ezra later to look at his take on the same series of events.

The supper clubs restarted in April, and have run every month, as have the men's breakfasts.
On May Day bank holiday we held our "Bake Holiday Bun Day" event, where we invited people to visit us, bring something they had baked, and bring the recipe.

The Ladies' Fellowship has met every month, and in July they hosted a visit from the Hampden View fellowship meeting.

At the time of writing, we are looking forward to our summer family camp, later in august.

February 2014

An apology to our regular readers for the lack of information about what we have been doing.  Unfortunately, blogging had to take a back seat in view of all that has had to be done.  In addition to everything at church, Jonathan and Susannah have moved business.  The locals among you will know that the Castle Market in sheffield has succumbed to the ravages of time, and the final day's trading was on November 23rd.  The new market on The Moor opened on Monday November 25th.  These two simple sentences give no impression of the amount of work that was involved over the months, and is continuing as Susannah and Jonathan work full time, 6 days a week in the new market.  If you are interested in the business, please look at http://s-and-j-s.blogspot.co.uk   If you are interested in the Moor Market, much more information is available at www.facebook.com/MoorMarket

Since early October we have held our annual festival of light on October 31st,

our annual barbecue and bonfire on November 2nd

and our Christmas events in December.
The Christmas events included:
Advent Carol service, "Five Courses and Carols", Carol singing with the Salvation Army Band, Christmas Carol service, Carol singing round the local area and a Christmas morning service.
January, as usual, was a quieter month, with our annual church party, the church meeting, and the bible fellowship restarted on the third Tuesday.
February was similarly quiet with just the regular meetings taking place.  A new innovation for 2014 is that the cleaning day is to be combined with a time of fellowship.  This will take place on the Thursday of the week following the bible fellowship on the first Tuesday of the month.
The real highlight of February was the completion of our decorations by the signwriter who relettered the text above the chapel front.
