Prayer:

Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins and to rise again for our justification: grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth; through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Risen Christ, for whom no door is locked, no entrance barred: open the doors of our hearts, that we may seek the good of others and walk the joyful road of sacrifice and peace, to the praise of God the Father. Amen

Lord, make my life a window for Your light to shine through and a mirror to reflect Your love to all I meet. Amen.

Risen Lord Jesus, you come to us in the most surprising - and the most ordinary - ways. Just when we begin to forget or doubt you, when we begin to live our lives as if you don't matter, you come - speaking to us, feeding us, encouraging us. You never forget us or fail us. Without you we are weak and fail often but with you we are strong. May we be made deeply aware of your presence this day.

God of the prophets, you fulfilled your promise that Christ would suffer and rise to glory. Open our minds to understand the scriptures that we may be his witnesses to the ends of the earth. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity, of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, you transform despair to wonder with the celebration of Easter. Let Christ’s rising spread joy and peace, fill the world with light and confirm our faith in you.

Lord, as you visited the disciples in the upper room, help us see the positives and the unexpected joys that have come from these unprecedented times. For the friendships rekindled, hobbies and gifts discovered, the unexpected memory making with those we are with. Comfort those for whom, the joy cannot be found, for those scared for themselves and loved ones, those who are on their own when we need each other most and for everyone who cannot see the light in the darkness. We pray that we believe more readily than Thomas that as you have risen again, that we will also emerge stronger, embracing a normal and not taking the little things for granted.

Lord, we thank you for all the ways we are able to gather in your name even though we are apart and cannot enter our beautiful churches. We are more thankful than ever for the communities that churches build. For those ensuring we can still worship together, pray for each other and meet together, if not in person. For all the music and hymns we can listen to and sing, knowing somewhere, someone is singing with us.

We pray for our local community and for the support we can give each other.

Good shepherd, you gave your life for us. Help us to follow in your footsteps and do what we can to recover the stragglers, care for the sick and comfort those in need. We thank you for all those risking themselves for others at this time. For all our key workers, whether they are health workers, police, delivery drivers or those working in shops. May they be recognised as such always and may we and those with influence, be guided in future decisions with these people in mind.

We pray for those who are sick. For their families and friends concerned about them and for those caring for them. May they all feel your healing presence.

And now, we commend ourselves and the whole of creation to your unfailing love.

One of our church members had the misfortune to tread on a nail, which penetrated quite deeply into his foot. After a rather trying journey to the local hospital, he was faced with climbing a flight of steps to reach A & E. He considers the walk to Emmaus, a distance of 7 miles (about 11 kilometres) to have been one of the most spectacular miracles of the bible. To walk this distance with nail wounds in both feet really does not bear thinking about!

Here we have one of the most beautiful stories of the new testament. Two very disheartened students of Jesus are walking home and a stranger starts walking alongside them. With the benefit of hindsight, and Luke’s narrative, we know that this is Jesus, but they did not.

We can pause to wonder why they did not recognise him, but it is not too difficult to understand; Jesus was the very last person they expected to see, he was dead! They, or at least their friends, had seen him publicly killed.

They seem amazed at the apparent ignorance of this stranger about the events of the past few days, but continue to walk with him, as he talks to them. His manner must have been reassuring, as he explained to them the scriptures, about the nature of the Messiah (the anointed one) and his ministry. They listened until they arrived at their destination, and invited him in for the night.

Only when the stranger participated in a familiar event, breaking of bread, did they recognise him. Perhaps there are times in our lives when we don’t recognise Jesus alongside us? Some of these times, it may be that we recognise his presence when something commonplace happens. Be on the lookout!

Once the disciples recognised Jesus’ presence, they were transformed. From being timid, fearful travellers, they were emboldened to go out on the road, in the dark, and return to Jerusalem. Once there, they found the other disciples to tell them of their encounter. It must have been a bit of a downer to be told that others had already had similar meetings.

An encounter with the risen Lord Jesus can transform us, completely changing our approach to events, and strengthening us in what we do.

Luke 10: 1 – 2. 17 – 24

1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Prayer

In joy and hope let us pray to the Father. That our risen Saviour may fill us with the joy of his glorious and life-giving resurrection … We pray that isolated and persecuted churches may find fresh strength in the good news of Easter… We pray Father help us to build each other up in Christian love We pray Father that you may provide for those who lack food, work or shelter…

We pray Father that by your power war and famine may cease through all the world …

We pray Father that you may reveal the light of your presence to the sick, the weak and the dying, to comfort and strengthen them. We pray Father that you may send us out through the gift of your Holy Spirit that we may bear faithful witness to Christ’s resurrection, In the same way as Christ sent out the seventy two Heavenly Father, you have delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your Son: grant that, as his death has recalled us to life, so his continual presence in us may raise us to eternal joy; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

In Numbers 24:6, God describes Israel as aloes planted by the Lord! “Like valleys that stretch out, like gardens by the riverside, like the aloes planted by the Lord, like the cedars beside the waters.” Aloes is one of the eight trees in scripture mentioned by name, which the Lord has planted. also Aloes (Aloe Vera ) used as an antiseptic on the body to stop bacterial growth

Many encyclopedic sources, when talking of Aloe and Myrrh, immediately link and associate the herbs with the events of the Crucifixion. “Myrrh is a constituent of perfumes and incense, and was highly prized in ancient times. Myrrh was one of the gifts of the Magi took to the baby Jesus in the story told in the Gospel of Matthew. Myrrh was a fact alluded to in the Christmas Carol ‘We Three Kings’…”

Luke 24: 1 – 8

1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6  He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he

Let us pray

O Lord Almighty, eternal God, gather together your Church from the ends of the earth into your kingdom, as grain was once scattered and now has become one loaf. Our Father, we also thank you for the precious blood of Jesus Christ, which was shed for us that our sins have been forgiven. Amen

Resurrection happened because Christ was first prepared to die. Defying death, He refused to release His hold on life and love. So now, as He encouraged us, we choose to remember so that we too can truly live. At the meal on the night before He died Jesus took bread and blessed it. Then He broke it and gave it to His disciples saying: This is my body, broken so that you may know life.

Eat it and remember Me. After the meal Jesus took the cup and blessed it. Then He gave it to His disciples saying: This is my blood, shed for you so that you may have life. Drink it and remember Me.

Prayer

Lord Jesus please place you loving hands on my head that I to may feel you love for

I am not worthy to be in your presence, but I come to you as a child, Lord have Mercy, forgive my failings, bless me that I may know you have forgiven me, fill me now with your peace. Amen

The next blessing to look at is of Jesus blessing food and a miracle that happened.

When Jesus feed the 5000 with a few a few fish and bread rolls He held the food up and asked God to bless it, the usual prayer said over food was and still is; Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth. You may know others, it is always good to ask God to bless our meals that we may never take them for granted.

The next blessing of Jesus was at the last supper Matthew 26:26-29 Amplified Bible,

26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, praising God, gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use, and when He had broken it, He gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body. 27 And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, 28 for this is My blood of the new covenant, For which ratifies the agreement and is being poured out

 for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I say to you, I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it with you new and  of superior quality in My Father’s kingdom.

Heavenly Father Place in our hearts the desire to make a difference

The last earthy blessing of Christ was on His disciples at His ascension. Luke 24: 45- 52

45 Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, ‘This is what is written: the Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.

Fanny Crosby wrote this closing hymn she had been blind for a long time and the first face she wanted to see was that of her saviour.

The disciples too where left praising their savour after He had blessed them. When Jesus left them, this time they were not sad in heart, but filled with great joy.

We continue to look at the Prayers of Christ Jesus the theme for this week is the Lords Prayer. For continuity some of the prayers will be repeated from previous Sundays

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of goodwill. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father, pour your spirit into our lives; may we feel the peace of your presence.

Lord, living God grant to us your wisdom and courage in our Christian witness.

But the Lords prayer is the first time that God Almighty can be addressed as Father but not only Father but Our Father; Ours, therefore makes us brothers and sisters. Almighty God has become personal God.

Matthew 6:5-15 

Earthly Dads should be encouraging loving, Caring, Forgiving, listening, guiding. Some earthly Dads may have fallen far short or even been abusive. A friend once told me she thinks of God as her creator loving Father God this she found healing after a traumatic childhood.

How many times have you said the Lords prayer with out stopping to think about the words even saying it quickly. Or just part of the service.

Try taking each line as a prayer within its self take time to pause, a hymn or psalm may come to mind.

Our father who art in heaven. God Our Dad who resides in Heaven

Hallowed be they name. Holy sacred Blessed is the name of God

Thy Kingdom come. God’s kingdom is now is here

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. A declaration of willingness to do what is requested by God our Father .

Give us this day our daily bread Give food enough to not be so hungry having a need to steal which will defy God. Not so much that lives become conceited and fall into sin

think about the food /bread for nourishment , and food /Bread for spiritual growth

And forgive our trespasses laying before God all our wrongdoings. Nastiness. hurtful actions any thing that would offend Father God .asking God to accept our confession

As we forgive those who trespass against us. God will forgive wrongs in exactly the same way as we forgive those who have Offended us

Lead us not into temptation Asking God to give us strength to walk away from ensnarements first temptation in the garden of Eden when the serpent told eve to eat from the tree of knowledge in Genesis

But deliver us from evil /evil one. Satan first temptation in Eden. Satan’s temptation of Christ in the wilderness. Simon Peter’s temptation to deny knowing Jesus. Christ’s resurrection concurred Satan’s hold over death and gives hope of eternal life.

It is Good to give our Father God the all the glory for He is the one and only living God

Heavenly Father, your Son Jesus Christ has promised that you will hear us when we ask in faith: receive the prayers we offer. 
We pray for Christians throughout the World, especially where there is suffering, danger  and persecution; Lord,  hear our prayer.

We pray for all the peoples of the world and their leaders; countries in crisis; those countries where there are conflicts, Countries affected by acts of terrorism. Countries ruled by corrupt and brutal leaders, Countries where people are starving. Lord, hear our prayer.
We pray for own leaders, at both National and Local level, those who administer our laws; the emergency services, all those who work in hospitals, care homes and the medical profession, all those who are caring for people who need help and friendship in their lives, We pray for those who have responsibility for the welfare of others.

We pray for our local community, for those who are sick, those who are suffering, those who grieve. We pray for the distressed, the lonely, the homeless, the unloved, the unemployed, We pray for those in need of a friend, those wanting someone to reach out to them with a caring and loving hand. We commend to your keeping, Father, ourselves and each other, our families, our neighbours, and our friends. Enable us by your Spirit to live in love for you and for one another. Help us all to reflect your love in the way we treat other people, so that your love spreads throughout the world.   Amen
