Psalm 119 vv 89, 90. & 105 - 108

89 Your word, Lord, is eternal;   it stands firm in the heavens.
90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations;  you established the earth, and it endures.

105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it,  that I will follow your righteous laws.
107 I have suffered much   preserve my life, Lord, according to your word.
108 Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth,   and teach me your laws.

John 1 : 1 – 14

1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2  He was with God in the beginning. 3  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  6  There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7  He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.8  He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9  The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10  He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11  He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12  Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- 13  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.14  The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Word was with God.  Children's and young at heart memory verse to music

Max Bygraves always use to say “I want to tell you a story. “ and you would know a long funny monologue was going to be given. It was captivating.

Children all loved stories. One of the one’s I loved to listen to when it was being read was Cinderella. My favorite Bible story from the old testarment was Esther.

And it still is ( try reading it in one evening).

My father had a box of childrens addresses and stories he used to use for Sunday worship and for school asemblies. My favourite was Monkey and the five pillars.

This is the story how I remember it.

A monkey was showing off in front of God but He just sat thinking and took no notice. So monkey said “look God, I can do eight somersaults in one leap in to the air” so he pulled a hair out of his head and blew on it, and up and up and up he went, higher and higher, then he did somersault after sumersault; all eight before he landed on the ground. When he landed at God’s feet, God still took no notice of him so monkey said “Look God, I can run right round this planet in one day” So again he pulled a hair from his head, and he ran, picking up four small pebbles from each continent, and placed them at Gods feet. Again, God did not look up. Monkey was getting cross by this stage, so he thought what can I do to impress God? “ I know” he said “I will jump to the end of the universe and back” so he did. Once there he saw five tall pillars “ how will God know that I’ve been here” he said to himself “ O I will write my name on the tallest pillar” so he found a small white rock and in his biggest hand writing he scratched the letters M O N K E Y. then taking a hair from his head he blew on it and jumped back to land at God’s feet. This time God looked up and smiled at monkey. This made monkey feel happy. Monkey told where he had been and how he had scratched his name on the largest pillar. And God looked down on him kindly and said “ O little monkey, do you not know I am always watching what you are doing, and where you are going, and where you have been. I am always with you. Look at my hand and God opened his hand and monkey looked and hardley beleved his eyes, for there on the middle finger in the teeniest weeniest writing, was the word monkey. So you see children, God is always there where ever you go He loves you and will never leave you, God is Jesus’s Dad and he is ours too.

When preparing to read Gods word, the first thing to do is pray for guidance and understanding, asking Him for forgiveness of our ignorance, our arrogance, that we can do things without Him

We must come before God in humble adoration as a child ready to listen For the word of God is as important today if not more so.

Prayer

Father God Hear this prayer…We thank you for the teaching of your son Jesus that your words are still with us, that we can learn from them. Help us to understand them, forgive our selfishness and pride, Our ignorance believing we can do all things in our own strength, forgetting that you are there. Just like monkey, we want to brag about what we can do, forgive us. We thank you for your love, through the power of the Holy Spirit make us clean from our sin. Fill us with your word that we may say what you want us to say in your way and not ours, for we know only you are worthy of all praise. Make us be worthy in your sight to read and respond to your holy word Amen .

Jesus talked in parables at times. These are to help us understand what the kingdom of heaven is like. Some are a learning curve. Because theses stories come from God, these are timeless and have just as much force and meaning today.

It is easy to think these parables are not relevent. Then if that is so Jesus said in Marks gospel Chapter 4

1Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: 3“Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”

9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

10When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12so that,

“ ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,

and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’ ”

13Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?  14 The farmer sows the word. 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.  17But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word;  19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.  20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

Christ’s words stand for ever, for He is in the father and the father is in him.

Our words can make others feel better by offering sympathy, comfort, encouragement. We can calm situations, offer praise and encouragement in how we use words

We can build up or destroy, our words can show God’s love along with our actions, or we can speak sharply to provoke fear. It is up to us. We need to ask ourselves one vital question question, and that is how whould Jesus respond, what would he say.

The holy Spirit is the breath of God He lives in each one of us, we must be open to his prompting and his guildence

God word is powerful. But as James writes in

James Chatter 1 : verse 22

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Gods word is everlasting. Wonderful words of eternal salvation for each one of us.

Wonderful words of life
